I am so excited to discuss relevant topics that others will enjoy and may be helped on the account of what I have learned in teaching. I think one of my favorite lessons I have learned through the years is the ability to manage time in the classroom. I believe that planning/organization is one of the most important things a teacher can do.
I like to organize my classroom into 20 minute segments where I do something for 20 minutes before moving on to the next activity. I usually have 3 things to get to in every class everyday. I think this works well because people’s brains function more effectively when they can focus for a short time and then move on to the next activity. I also like to organize my weeks into easy weeks and hard weeks. I try to be clear and fair through the entire process as I truly believe that students want and appreciate communication. Thinking some of the simple things through helps my students know what I expect of them and what they can expect of me. A sample of how I keep things organized is a to do list that I created to keep my 3 preps separate and organized. It is a to do list that lists the classes at the top and other things I have to do outside of school on the bottom. It is made from recycled paper and is extremely effective in keeping me focused throughout the day. As a gift to each of you who subscribe to my blog I would like to give you my to do list for FREE!
